Day 5 – Praslin Full Day Tour
In the morning you will visit Vallée de Mai National Park (UNESCO World Heritage Site). Here giant palms rustle overhead as you meander through this ancient forest filled with many endemic species of palm and rare fauna, such as the Seychelles Black Parrot, the tiger chameleon and the diminutive Seychelles tree frog.
Vallée de Mai is also home to the Coco de Mer palm; the seed is the largest nut in the world and has been treasured as a collectable and mystical aphrodisiac for centuries. Let our Guides unravel the secrets of this magical forest to you. It was once believed – in the distant lands where these giant seeds would wash ashore – that the Coco de Mer originated from a sacred forest under the sea. Today, we know better, and Vallée de Mai – believed by some to be the original site of the Garden of Eden – is where these magnificent palms grow.
Afterwards you will visit the world famous Anse Lazio Beach. This is one of the most photographed beaches in the world. This pristine beach, with its white sands and clear waters, is fringed by lush vegetation and bordered by magnificent granite boulders. Here you can swim, sunbathe or relax on the soft sands of one of Seychelles’ finest beaches. There are restaurants to have lunch around.

Then continue the boat ride to Curieuse Island with its unique eco-system. Enjoy the beauty of this island – visit the old Doctor’s House turned into a Museum; follow the path through the mangrove swamps to the site of a tortoise breeding colony. There are many unique things to see on Curieuse including the Coco de Mer, mangrove forests, Aldabra tortoises, takamaka, trees, hawksbill and green sea turtle breeding ground and the Seychelles Black Parrot as well as much more indigenous flora and fauna.
Enjoy a delicious beach picnic lunch.
Afterwards, visit picturesque St.Pierre (tiny islet), to relax or to snorkel by enjoying the clear waters, the variety of fish and the underwater scenery. Daily excursions, including glass bottom boat excursions, provide spectacular views of Mahé, and introduce visitors to the treasures of this pristine marine protected area, the first of its kind to be established in the Indian Ocean (March, 1973).
Snorkelers on reefs can enjoy a host of corals of all shapes, sizes and colours. Ste. Anne Marine National Park contains one of the largest areas of seagrass meadows in the granitic islands and it is not uncommon to see green turtles feeding on them. Visitors might even have the opportunity to swim with Hawksbill Turtles or watch Bottle-nose Dolphins cruising, for a truly memorable experience.
The islands of this Marine Park are full of history. Ste Anne Island was the site of the first French settlement in 1770, a courageous undertaking as the island was surrounded by swamps teeming with crocodiles. Dominated by a hill rising to 246m and surrounded by thick tropical vegetation, Ste Anne served as a base for the Royal Marines (during World War II), who assured the defense of Victoria, the capital of Seychelles. Remnants of the cannons used can still be found on the island. In the early decades of the 19th century it was also the base for whaling activity in the Seychelles. Ste. Anne hosted the headquarters of the Marine Parks Authority in 1996-2001, as well as the Shoals of Capricorn Programme (Sept, 1997 – 2001). Presently, the island is occupied by a five-star hotel and access is restricted. The island remains one of the most important nesting sites for Hawksbill Turtles in the granitic islands, requiring restriction on some beaches during the nesting season.
