A Hotel that is Part of the Landscape
Welcome to Heritance Kandalama, one of the premier hotels in Sri Lanka. A hotel that doesn’t sit on the landscape but is part of it. Where monkeys climb your balcony pillars as if they were trees, swifts nest in the corners of corridors as if they were cliffs and granite crags erupt into the sinuous white walkways. Where you can float in the infinity pool while gazing across at the Sigiriya rock fortress, the eighth wonder of the world. The hotel sits at the heart of the cultural triangle of Sri Lanka, close to five UNESCO World Heritage Sites. The infinity pool shows the ingenuity of the architect Geoffrey Bawa. The edge of the pool blends with the water of Kandalama lake, giving the impression that you are in the lake itself. Siripala, a traditional flautist from the village, also plays here in the evenings. Ease into a world of pleasure at the divine spa. Soothing therapies of every kind are yours to restore your entire being. Choose your indulgence from ancient Ayurvedic traditions to Swedish aromatherapy massages from the extensive spa menu – Just let go and slip away.

Dining
Kanchana Restaurant – The main restaurant is on the sixth floor, with full-length glass windows providing superlative views over the lake. Sometimes you can dine outside, accompanied by the haunting flute music of Gunapala. By day you might spot a purple-rumped sunbird sipping nectar from the flowering shrubs planted outside; in the evening, candlelight reflects off the carefully crafted metal tree sculptures, creating a more intimate ambience. There is always something going on at our chef action stations, from waffles and omelettes at breakfast to Mongolian stir fries or barbecues on our theme nights. (Dress code for dinner is smart casual)
Kaludiya Restaurant – The fine dining restaurant on the seventh floor offers sophisticated fusion dining, blending cultural influences from around the globe. You can travel the world in a single meal, perhaps starting with Iranian mutton kofta on roasted aubergine and pomegranate salad. Then linger over baked red snapper marinated with tahini and sumac, served with Spanish saffron rice and olive tomato gravy, before ending up with tropical fruit kebab flamed in red rum and accompanied by wood apple, mango cassata and toffee cream. Naturally, we have an equally international wine list to match your menu.
Cafe Kachchan – Café Kachchan is on the fifth floor, overlooking the infinity pool, Sigiriya Rock Fortress and Kandalama lake. On arrival you will be invited to relax here with a cool drink while we take care of your registration. At other times you can order light bites and snacks, such as our signature jumbo sandwich, ice cream sundaes and cakes. At weekends, there is a small stall where you can buy home-made jams and pickles to take home. (At other times they are also available in the shop.)
