Cambodia Regions
You’ll have seen pictures of those serene Buddha faces and those Tomb Raider temples covered in vines. They are at Angkor, Cambodia’s most famous sight. But there’s far more to this wonderful country than these astonishing temple tomb cities. In a two-week-sized package, Cambodia offers pretty much all that lures visitors to Southeast Asia – palm-shaded, white-sand beaches, Buddhist pagodas, glittering palaces and forests with elephants and gibbons. There are crumbling French colonial towns too and monks in saffron robes holding out alms bowls at dawn. There are restaurants and street markets serving spicy curries, stir-fries and soups. And endangered Irrawaddy river dolphins – swimming in the Mekong – the huge river that defines the country.
As these parts of the country get largely overlooked they are far less visited than elsewhere. Cambodia receives less than a fifth the tourists of neighbouring Thailand. Locals aren’t tourism-jaded and remain genuinely friendly. And as it’s a small country you can see plenty and still combine a visit here with one to a neighbour – like Vietnam or Laos.
