The Smallest African Capital
Situated on the northeastern side of Mahé, Victoria is the capital city of the largest island of the Seychelles and at the same time the smallest African capital. The city was first established under the British colony. This is why it has been named after Queen Victoria. Walking down Victoria, you can easily distinguish the colonial influences on the city. Some perfect examples are the historic Little Ben monument (referred to locally as “Lorloz” or Clock Tower) and the Queen Victoria statue in the centre of the island.
